Preventive Health Care

If an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure; think what a good prevention plan is worth.

A good plan starts with evaluating healthy behavior and health risk factors. Both your behavior (lifestyle and habits) and health risk factors affect your chances of developing a serious disease. Many of the most serious health problems can be prevented or postponed by immunizations and healthier lifestyles, or detected early with screenings and then treated effectively.

Screenings are a very important part of preventive care. A screening, or screening test, is a simple test for the early detection of a disease before you have any symptoms. Your health risk factors change as you go through life. Therefore, some screenings are done as a baseline and show measures that are normal for you at that age. Later screenings are then compared to the baseline so changes can be detected. Also, having screenings can help you learn the early symptoms or warning signs of disease.
