In-line Skate Safety

  • Always wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads, and wrist guards.
  • Skate on the right side of paths, trails, and sidewalks.
  • Pass people walking, people on bikes, and other skaters on the left.
  • Stay away from uneven or broken pavement, water, oil or trash on the trail.
  • Avoid places with lots of cars.
  • Let walkers have the right of way.
  • Your skates should fit snugly all around your foot with a little room at the toe.
  • The boots should have air vents and hinged cuffs. If you can squeeze the boot it isn’t the right size for you.
  • Wriggle the wheels to check the axle and bearings.
  • Wear a thin sock under a little thicker sock to keep your feet dry and prevent blisters.
  • Your dentist would probably like you to wear a mouthpiece.
